Obituary

 Myrtle Beach, SC

Hulda Marie Linberg Whitton, 76, of Socastee, passed away August 3, 2017 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

Hulda, known to her friends as Ms. Tillie, was born October 9, 1940 and grew up in Allport PA, the daughter of Carl and Elvira (Lockey) Linberg. She attended Morris Township High School and it was during that time that she met and fell in love with George Whitton of Kylertown, PA. The two were married September 10, 1960 and enjoyed 56 years together.

Tillie was not a joiner herself but, was supportive and encouraging to her husband, children, and grandchildren with the many organizations that they took part in. She liked to draw and paint, enjoyed shopping, sewing, quilting, and gardening. She could make anything she touched grow. On many occasions she used her talents to assist the Masonic Lodge, Shrine, International order of Rainbow for Girls, DeMolay International, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. She was always ready to go on a trip or an adventure, which often included camping and fishing with the children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband George R. Whitton Sr and three children: son George R. Whitton Jr of the home, son Carl N. Whitton and his wife Kristy of Socastee, and daughter Dawn-Marie and her husband John Lee Jr of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and three sisters: Geraldine Milliron of Scranton, PA, Thelma Armstrong of Fredricksberg, VA and Gertrude Dickerson of Fredricksburg, VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter in law Sharon (Brun) Whitton, five brothers: Carl Linberg, William Linberg, George Linberg, Rev. Robert Linberg, and Ronald Linberg.

A memorial service will be held 11:00am on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Surfside. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Quilts of Valor. Please designate your gift to the local group Myrtle Beach Shore Birds online at QOVF.org/donate or mail to QOVF, PO Box 191, Winterset, IA 50273
