Our Story

McMillan-Small Funeral Home is a full service funeral establishment, dedicated to the families that we serve. We assist families with traditional funeral arrangements, complete cremation services, out-of-state burials, and shipping throughout the U.S. as well as internationally. Conveniently located in Myrtle Beach, in the heart of the Grand Strand in beautiful coastal South Carolina, we are the benchmark of funeral service in the area.

Stephen L. (Steve) McMillan, Sr., founder and CEO of McMillan-Small Funeral Home and a 1970 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He opened McMillan-Small Funeral Home in 1978 with his partner, Aaron Small who left the business in 1985. Mr. McMillan continues the excellence of caring for families each and everyday. He is married to Mary Catherine (Williams) McMillan and they have one son, Stephen L. (Lee) McMillan, Jr. who also works in the business. Steve has two granddaughters, Macie and Malley. He enjoys golf and a variety of other things to keep him busy and is a member Ocean View Baptist Church and the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, a mason and former President of the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club.

Through the years he has added an enlarged chapel, modern office facilities, and a state of the art crematorium. A complete casket selection room, burial vault display, and updated advance planning department are some of the examples that exemplify Mr. McMillan’s continued efforts to serve the needs of the surrounding communities. The staff at McMillan-Small Funeral Home has combined experience of over 125 years of funeral service.

Our funeral home is located at the corner of the U.S. Highway 17 Bypass and 67th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. We have historically served families from Calabash, North Carolina and Little River, South Carolina to Georgetown, South Carolina, and we continue to do so today. We are centrally located between the major local cemeteries, in close proximity to the area hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, and near to the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

Our staff consists of handpicked professionals, each adding years of experience and expertise in their specific area. We live in the Conway, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, and Socastee areas—allowing us to address the unique needs of the communities that we serve. Our involvement in community activities is very important and includes Rotary International, Kiwanis International, Loyal Order of the Moose, Masons, and a number of church affiliations in the area.
