Louise Taylor Miles
Louise Taylor Miles, 100, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
She was born July 16, 1918 in Nash County, NC, daughter of the late Rufus Walter and Siddie Boseman Taylor. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred A. Miles and her son, Addison Sanford “Sandy” Miles; who during his tenure is credited with quickly establishing the rebirth of Pine Lakes Country Club into a truly international golf resort, known worldwide as “The Granddaddy.”
She and her husband were the former owners of the Pine Lakes (International) Country Club. One of Louise’s joys were riding horses, especially at the Pine Lakes Stables.
This is how her longtime friend Jack Thompson remembers her, “The fabled history of Myrtle Beach turned another page with the passing of Louise Taylor Miles, the former Mrs. Fred Miles (CEO) of the legendary Pine Lakes (International) Country Club. The social scene in Myrtle Beach during the fifties and sixties revolved around the weekly schedule of events to entertain the "who's who" members of its exclusive golf clientele. The main attraction for the club was golf, but the after hours were set aside for VIP banquets, private parties, and fashion shows, all held in the grandest fashion and were hosted, and directed by the incomparable, and beautiful Louise Miles, her penchant for eloquence and style set the benchmark for charm and etiquette in the local circles. Louise was affectionately considered "The Grand Dame" of her era.”
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Beulah Miles Butler and her husband Dr. Gene Butler, grandchildren, Melissa Miles Rufty and her husband Alfred and Scott Miles and his wife Robin, and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lilly, and Adair Rufty, and Addison Miles. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to her caregivers.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.
