Surrounded at home by her loving family, Yvonne S. Capps, 87, went to be with the Lord on April 14, 2025 in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was born on September 12, 1937 in Orangeburg, SC. Yvonne’s family moved to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1953 where she graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1955. After high school, she took accounting classes at Coastal Carolina College before working for MH Smith Accounting Offices. Even though Clyde had noticed Yvonne while she was cheering at a Myrtle Beach High School football game when he was home on leave from the Citadel; they did not officially meet until a few months later. They got married on September 2, 1956 at First Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC. Married for almost 69 years, their love was one for the ages, never wavering and always true; Yvonne was always “Clyde’s girl.” They truly set an example for their children through the love and devotion they had for each other Together Clyde and Yvonne owned and operated the Royal Inn Motel in the “old heart” of Myrtle Beach from 1970-2004. Raising four kids while running a motel was hard work, but Yvonne met the challenge and her kids were blessed growing up in this unique, old beach town environment. People from many places enjoyed Yvonne’s kind and hospitable personality, which was one of the reasons they always came back to the Royal Inn.
Clyde and Yvonne were proud Charter Members of Ocean View Baptist Church, and current members of Jerry Robertson’s Adults’ Sunday School class. Also, being an avid reader, Yvonne was an Honorary Lifelong Member and past Secretary of the Genevieve Chandler Book Club in Myrtle Beach. Yvonne is survived by her husband, R. Clyde Capps, Jr., her brother Stacy Simmons and his wife, Jo, and her brother-in-law Harold Capps. Also, four children, Stacy Turner and husband Larry, Richard Capps and wife
Coeleen, Gayle Berkey and husband Craig, and Christie Hoffner and husband Chip. Surviving grandchildren include Allyson Kreps, Christian Capps, Madison Capps, Lauren Berkey, Tyler Berkey, Rachel Berkey, Nathan Hoffner, Thomas Currie, and Ian Hoffner. Yvonne is also survived by 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Benjamin Simmons. Special thank you to Nedria Lance and Lower Cape Fear Life Care for their support and care in Yvonne’s final days. The family will receive friends at McMillan-Small Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 10:00-10:50 AM and then the funeral service will start at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held privately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
