William McCrea Ramsey (Bill), dear husband and friend, passed away at age 76, on April 19, 2022, after a long decline with Parkinsonism and Dementia. He was the son of the late Harold and Mary Ramsey, and was born in Bethlehem, PA, and grew up in Schenectady, NY. Bill received his undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts at Bates College in Maine, and received his Masters and PhD in English at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. He taught writing and American Literature courses at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC; Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, AL; and taught for 24 years at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC until he retired. Bill was also an internationally recognized Haiku poet, and he wrote four chap books of Haiku, Haibun and other poems, and published his poems in over 250 scholarly poetry journals. Preceded by his late son, Matthew Merwan Ramsey; Bill is survived by his wife, Deborah Ramsey; his daughter, Mehera Ramsey Zorn and her husband, Quentin Zorn; his granddaughters, Alia and Adeline Zorn; his brother, Douglas Ramsey; his nephew, David Ramsey; his brother-in-law, Dr. Roy Appel; and his godson, Reyhan Miller. A Zoom Memorial in celebration of Bill’s life will be held on May 14, 2022 at 1:00. Memorials may be made in William Ramsey’s name to the Meher Spiritual Center at 10200 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572, or to a charity to help the people in the Ukraine.
