Obituary

Thomas Woodrow Sines, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully around family on February 3,
2025. He was born on March 30, 1948 in Friendsville, MD to the late Woodrow Taylor and
Mabel Ethel (Bowman) Sines. Raised on a farm with 12 siblings, he had a deep love of the
outdoors from an early age; and he always looked forward to coming home after school to the
smell of his mom’s fresh baked bread. Following high school, he lived in Cleveland, OH briefly
before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Tom served honorably in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970
as a crew chief for the 173 rd Assault Helicopter Company and was awarded multiple medals for
his heroism and bravery. As a dedicated patriot, Tom continued to serve in the U.S. Army
Reserves while he began his professional career on the assembly line for General Motors in
Lordstown, OH. His passion for cars and aviation was an ever-present theme in his life leading
him to obtain his recreational pilot’s license and own countless performance cars (his favorites
including a 1970 AMC Javelin and 1984 Monte Carlo SS).
Tom relocated his family to Arnold, MD for a few years until finally settling in
Stevensville, MD. He worked for the District of Columbia Government as a maintenance
mechanic and procurement specialist for 25 years before retiring in 2024 and moving to
Conway, SC to be nearer to his beloved grandchildren. Tom was the consummate family man
and was always present for his son’s sports events and performances even after working
double shifts and countless hours of overtime. He will always be remembered for his dedication
to family and friends – many times sacrificing vacation time to visit those hours from home.
Later in life, Tom developed a passion for travel and counted Marathon, FL and Paris,
France as two of his most memorable trips. Blessed with a quick wit, his humor and sarcasm
will be missed by those who knew him best. While not always the life of the party, his smile and
laughter seemed to always draw a crowd, and he embraced everyone as a friend from the first
introduction. When afforded the opportunity, he enjoyed “R&R” (rest and relaxation) with a hot
cup of tea or a mojito. Tom had an unmatched work ethic, but always made time for his family
and friends and never lost his youthful exuberance for life – especially in the company of his
grandsons.
Tom is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda (Crandell) Sines of Conway, SC; his son
Shawn Sines and his wife Laura, and his precious grandsons Gabriel and Christian, all of Myrtle
Beach, SC; his eldest son Thomas W Sines, Jr. of Chattanooga, TN; brothers Larry Sines
(Mary) of Oakland, MD, Robert Sines (Wanda) of Friendsville, MD, John Sines (Crystal) of
Daytona Beach, FL, and Dale Sines (Brenda) of Mt. Lake Park, MD; seven sisters Kaylen
Carlson (Harland), Wendy Beck, Valerie Daris, all of Oakland, MD, Jayne Frazee of Bruceton
Mills, WV, Kathy Sines (Bob) of Morgantown, WV, Peggy Miller (Ron) and Harla Wilhelm (John)
of Cranesville, WV, sister-in-law Susan Sines of Oakland, MD; and numerous nieces and
nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Gregory Sines Sr.,
and brothers-in-law Daniel Daris and Buck Frazee.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Tom’s honor to the

American Cancer Society.
