Thomas Shelly Long, Sr., 78, passed away on May 1, 2021 at his home.
He was born on October 27, 1942 in Tiline, Kentucky to the late Betty C. Brown and Hugh G. Long. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Allen Long; a daughter, Cynthia Kaye Long; and a sister, Wanda of Kentucky.
He retired as a Master Sgt. In the United States Air Force following 22 years of service. Following his military service, Tom worked for Belk in security for 20 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved his family and church.
Survivors include his son, Thomas “Tommy” Shelly Long, Jr.; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Brandy) Long, Kendra (Patrick) McDonald, Kirstyn (Danny) DeAngelo, Victoria (Stephen) Long, Kelsey Long, Catherine (Jamile) Long, John-Thomas; three step-sons, Joseph “Jay” (Sarah) Stalvey, II, William “Seth” (Alisha) Stalvey, and Joshua Stalvey; 22 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Nerissa (Sandy) Sandborn, Joan (Wayne) Stalvey, Janice, and Wava of Kentucky.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.
