Thomas Leo Gilbride, 75, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away February 02/02/ 2023 in Myrtle Beach. Thomas Leo Gilbride, the athletic, witty son of Lois (Daley) and John Nelson Gilbride, was born in Cleveland, Ohio September 02, 1947.
Tom loved to run and set three school records at Westlake High School. For two summers Tom sailed the Great Lakes on the “Kinsman Independence” for three years. He served as a Transportation Specialist and Public Information Officer for the United States Army in Panama, receiving an Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. Tom received an Associate Degree from Lorain Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Toledo and a Masters Degree from Central Michigan University.
At the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Tom did layout n the advertising department and served as chief copy aide. He was assistant manager at the Southlake Mall and Brookfield Square Mall. He became manager of the Westland Mall in Columbus, Ohio. Besides managing his own properties, Tom was also property manager for Cardinal Industries, Dunbar and Deerwood Management Company. He also served as head of the Toledo Apartment Association.
Tom taught business classes at Career Com College, Bliss College, Urbana University and Horry County Community College. At London Correctional Institution Tom started as a corrections officer, and then became the Job coordinator there.
Besides his involvement in the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Tom worked in customer service for the Myrtle Beach Convention Center and also served on the board at the Jonathan Harbour Resort.
Tom leaves behind his beloved wife, Stasia (Suchora) Gilbride; his wonderful son, Adam Gilbride.
A Funeral Service will be held at McMillan Small Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 10, 2023 (St. Andrew Church is closed for funeral services due to construction). Visitation, prior to the service will be from 10:00 Am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, Myrtle Beach, SC following the service.
