Sylvia Leigh Brown, born March 31, 1946, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Sylvia was admired for her adventurous spirit, insatiable curiosity, love of art and culture, unwavering faith, strong personality, and fierce independence.
Sylvia’s love for the world led her to explore and live in diverse communities—from various regions across the United States to countries like France, Israel, Turkey, and the Azores Islands. Her travels were driven not only by a desire to see new places but by an eagerness to immerse herself in different cultures and connect with people from all walks of life. Above all, Sylvia was intensely curious and courageous.
As a mother, Sylvia worked hard to raise her children, Brandi Elise and Bryan Rice, with that same spirit of adventure. She encouraged their creativity, fostered their education, and instilled in them a love for exploration and respect for others. Sylvia was also a lifelong supporter of the arts, always inspiring those around her to appreciate beauty and find interest in the world.
An avid reader, researcher, and talented cook, Sylvia took pride in her Left-Handedness, embracing every unique part of her identity. She found joy in her family, especially her beloved granddaughters, Sydney and Jocelyn, and was known for her honest nature, unwavering loyalty, and steadfast support for those she loved.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, S. Howard Bullock and Lilly Bullock, as well as her sisters, Myra Sells and Marcia Bullock. She is survived by her children, Brandi Elise and Bryan Rice, her cherished granddaughters, and her lifelong friend, Jim Brown, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, located at 2408 South Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at the Bullock family plot. Family and friends are invited to join for lunch at a nearby restaurant following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia’s memory may be made to the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League or the Charleston Animal Society, reflecting her deep love for nature and animals.
