Svetlana Avdeeva Obituary

Svetlana Avdeeva, age 59, passed away on Thursday, May 4th, 2023. She was surrounded by her immediate family. 

Svetlana was born on July 23rd, 1963 in Moscow, Russia to parents Maria Mishenina and Oleg Avdeev. Svetlana received a Masters Degree in Mathematics from Moscow State University and after, worked there as an engineer at the Institute of Mechanics.

She married Alex Vasilyev in 1989, and they spent 33 years happily married, starting a beautiful life and family together. Svetlana, Alex and daughter, Katya, immigrated to the United States in June 1994, and settled in the Bay Area in Northern California, with their second daughter, Ksenia, born in 2000. 

Svetlana was a devoted wife and mother, and dedicated her life’s work to all children, and especially her own daughters. She was a loyal and loving friend to many. She was a highly regarded educator, a teacher and assistant director at the Church of All Russian Saints school, a passionate tennis coach to her students, a respected and beloved member of the Russian community in the Bay Area. After moving to Calabash, NC in 2022, Svetlana quickly integrated herself into the local community and became a friendly and active participant in various social and athletic activities. 

Svetlana will be remembered for her kindness, empathy, and humility. Her intelligence and talent were complemented by unwavering determination and an insatiable curiosity to pursue knowledge and new skills. She inspired others with her artistry and creativity. She had a genuine smile for everyone, and her energy had the power to captivate and uplift all those in her presence. 

Svetlana will be missed dearly by many. Her memory will live on through her accomplishments and the many people she touched.

A funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, SC on Monday, May 8th at 11am, followed by the burial at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens cemetery in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
