Susan Jordan, age 62, of Myrtle Beach, passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2025.
Born on September 24, 1963, in Rome, NY, Susan was the beloved daughter of Charlotte and Virgil Washburn. She attended Rome City Schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1981. She went on to study Business at SUNY Delhi.
Susan took great pride in her career as an external auditor. As a long-time employee of The Hartford Insurance Group, she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and clients alike. Her professionalism and dedication made her highly sought after, with many clients specifically requesting her for their audits.
Known for her intentionality, kindness, generosity, and unwavering support, Susan touched the lives of everyone she met. She was often the first to donate to a cause, offer words of encouragement, or lend a helping hand. Her empathy and attentiveness to others’ needs were hallmarks of her character.
Susan shared a loving partnership with Matthew Byrnes for many years. Together, they built a joyful life in Myrtle Beach, where they graciously welcomed family and friends into their home—treating guests like royalty with golf cart rides to the ocean and special dinners.
She is survived by her partner, Matt Byrnes; her sister, Wendy Bowers, and Mike Kimmel; son Daniel Byrnes and Kat Byrnes; grandchildren Caden and Kennedy; nieces Emily Moylan (Rory) and Avery Warcup (Cory); great-nephews Finigan, Beau, Colton, and Waylon; and dear friends Ann Marie Edwards and Cory Brais. There are so many other special friends that we could list – dearest friends, you know how much she loved you.
Susan was preceded in death by her daughter, Elise Jordan Calhoun, who passed in January 2012; her parents, Charlotte and Virgil Washburn; and her special friend, Chris Brais.
Susan had a deep love for animals. Her cat Morgan Freeman, newly adopted dog Chester, and ponies Snickers and Foxy brought her endless joy. She was an avid concertgoer and had the fortune of meeting musical legends such as Tony Orlando, Paul Anka, The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, and Sugarland. She enjoyed music trivia with local friends and actively participated in various fundraising events.
Memorial service will not be held at this time; a celebration of life will be planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.com or All About Animals Rescue & Transport (AAART) 1082 Waccamaw Dr, Conway SC 29526 (Venmo @Lisa-Saunders-24)
Susan was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
