Susan Ann (Sweeney) Howley

Susan Ann Howley, 81, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Glenfield, NY, passed away at her residence Thursday, October 21, 2021.  Born in Greig, New York, she was a daughter of the late William and Ruth (Plato) Sweeney.  Besides her parents Sue was preceded in death by a son, Mark Howley, a grandson Anthony Gudgeon, brothers, Robert Sweeney (Jean), Stanley Sweeney; sisters, Peggy McDonald (Gus), Irene Gill (Jim), Janet Houppert (Ken), Linda Kirschner; brothers-in-law Dominick Whalen, Leonard Hoffman, Charles McLaughlin, Philip Howley.

Sue was brought up in the Greig and Glenfield, NY area, graduating high school in Glenfield.  She worked many years as a stenographer at the former Rome Air Force Base and later, with her husband, Mike, managed the Central Hotel in Glenfield.  She lived in Chandler, Arizona for several years where she was a member of the Kare Bear Club and a communicant of St. Steven’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her loving husband, Michael Daniel Howley; sons, William Howley, Benjamin Howley (Erica), Richard Howley (Mary Jane); daughters, Jacqueline “Jackie” Gudgeon (Jack), Kelly Wolfe (Shawn); ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carol Howley, Shirley Sweeney, Joan Whalen, Judy Marman, Bethany Hoffman, Anne Howley O’Brian; brother-in-law Bill Marman, Nick Kirschner. 

A memorial mass will be scheduled in the spring of 2022 in Central Square, NY.  McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach, SC is assisting the family.
