Steven J. Schnall, 78, of Myrtle Beach, SC, sadly passed away on December 22, 2022. Steve was born on January 20, 1944, in Queens, NY. He lived in Hamilton Township, NJ, and Mission, TX, for many years before moving to Myrtle Beach.
Steve graduated from Springfield College in 1965 and earned his master’s degree from the University of Connecticut in 1967. He then coached college football, making stops at Widener University, Lafayette College, William & Mary, East Carolina University, and Princeton University. Later, he coached and scouted for the New York Giants and San Diego Chargers.
Steve, fondly known as “Coach,” became a mainstay around Coastal Carolina University in the early 2000’s when his son, Kevin, was a player and coach for the baseball team. He rarely missed a Coastal Carolina football or baseball game. Steve also loved watching his grandchildren in their various endeavors, whether football, baseball, or dance.
Coach was notorious for his acronyms, specifically “ZD,” which stood for his Zero Defects philosophy for coaching and life.

Steve is predeceased by his parents, Judson and Miriam Schnall. He is survived by his two children, Tim (Megan) Schnall and Kevin (Megan) Schnall; grandchildren, Ryan Schnall, Gavin Schnall, Justin Schnall, Sydney Sgro, Jayden Schnall, and Fallon Schnall. Steve is also survived by his brother Robert (Joy) Schnall, and his twin sister, Judy Hecker; nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.
A private ceremony to celebrate his life will occur at a later date. According to his wishes, it will be held on a football field near a non-rusty goal post.
