Sheila Ann Settlemyer Hooks, 64, passed away the afternoon of May 17, 2022, in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Sheila was born October 29, 1957, in Mooresville, NC to Shirley Settlemyer and the late Cecil Settlemyer. A 1976 graduate of Ashbrook High School, Sheila went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina Charlotte with a degree in Psychology. A lifelong resident of North Carolina, Sheila relocated to Myrtle Beach in 2018, and quickly immersed herself into the community, made many friends and became a member of First Presbyterian Church Myrtle Beach.
Sheila spent much of her working career in service to the community. She served in Probation and Parole for the state of North Carolina and worked at various hospitals as well. Sheila left public service for a while and managed the staffing company, Mega Force, in the Wilmington area and helped it become one of the most successful staffing companies in the area. Later, Sheila returned to her true calling of helping others as a social and case worker. She worked with the North Carolina Department of Social Services as a social worker in Child Protective Services with her last assignment in Johnston County, North Carolina. Upon relocating to Myrtle Beach, Sheila finished her working career as a case worker for Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs providing support and services to individuals suffering from traumatic brain injures and/or severe spinal cord injuries.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and true friend to so many, Sheila’s passing leaves an empty place in our hearts as she will be so missed. In addition to her mother, Sheila is survived by her husband, Jimmy Hooks. Additionally, she is survived by a daughter, Abby Perkins, and husband Jeremy, from Hampstead, NC. One grandson, Jackson “Jack” Perkins of Hampstead, NC. She is also survived by a sister, Pam Burgess, and husband Scott.
To celebrate Sheila’s life, there will be a small intimate service at First Presbyterian Church Myrtle Beach on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 10:00 AM. All wishing to attend are welcome, and for those unable to attend, the service will be “live Streamed” on the First Presbyterian Church Myrtle Beach website.
Sheila’s heart was in giving and serving others. With that focus in mind the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation in memory of Sheila, to the Building Fund at First Presbyterian Church Myrtle Beach, or another charity of your choice.
