Retired Sergeant Larry David Walker of The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department passed away peacefully and comfortably on May 11th, 2023 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Larry was born April 25th, 1946 in Charlotte, NC to the late Mildred Louise Bowers and David Jessie Walker. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Randy George Walker in 2021.
Larry was one of the most prolific Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers serving for over forty years as an officer and investigator. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served overseas in the Vietnam War. He was also President of the Fraternal Order of Police in Charlotte, leading rookie and veteran police officers to uplifting community servant leadership. His caring spirit and driving leadership will be missed by his surviving family, friends, and colleagues. A valued member of his team and colleagues, Larry worked hard to assist those in need and guide those who sought his professional direction.
Larry’s passion away from work included a tremendous love for the game of golf. He was often found at the top of the leaderboard in local Charlotte Area tournaments, winning multiple times while in his prime. That passion continued even after he injured his arm in the line of duty, and he was able to play the game he loved well into his retirement.
Larry is survived by his two sons, David (Kelly), and Christopher Walker, along with three grandchildren, Ryan, Kayden, and Cameron. He also is survived by his loving nieces, Carrie and Emily Walker Hudson (Jeff), along with his nephew Matt Walker (Katie) and their families.
