In Loving Memory of Sally Ann (McDonald) Castelli:
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Sally Castelli, who left this world peacefully and in her family’s thoughts and prayers on February 8, 2025, at the age of 75. She was a woman of immense strength and conviction, never afraid to stand up for what she believed in or to fiercely support those she loved. She lived with passion, spoke her mind with confidence, and filled every room with her warmth, humor, and unshakable love for her family.
Born on January 26, 1950, in Washington Heights, New York, Sally was a free spirit with a heart full of compassion – not only for her friends and family but also for animals including her particular love for cats. She was quick with advice, unwavering in her loyalty, and had a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. Whether it was sharing her opinion, embracing a bit of playful mischief, or doing something completely unexpected, she had a knack for making life more colorful and fun.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Anthony H. Castelli; her son, Steven J. Castelli (grandson, Dominic A. Castelli); her daughter, Lauren A. Castelli Massimino (husband, Michael R. Massimino); her sisters, Eileen Franey (nephew, Brain Franey), and Susan Rogan (husband, Sean Rogan); her sister-in-law, Carol Castelli Frank (husband, John Frank); and many other cherished family members and friends who were fortunate enough to know her. Sally’s love, humor, and fierce devotion to her family will forever be a guiding force in their lives.
Friendships typically come and go in life. The majority of Sally’s friends were like family. Despite the distance and ups and downs in life, most of her many lifelong friends have remained in her life for as long as six decades.
A celebration of her life will be held in early spring, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Dementia Society of America or The American Humane Societies, reflecting her lifelong love and compassion for cats.
Mom, you were our rock, our protector, and the glue of our family. Your love, laughter, and spirit will be missed beyond words but will live on in the stories, smiles, and memories you gave us.
