Ruth Ann Kocholek was born on May 28, 1939 in Sharon, Pennsylvania to Charles and Annette Kocholek. Ruth lived in Sharon, PA until the age of 16 when she moved to Greenville, PA , graduated from high school and began attending The Salvation Army. Ruth was converted in the Salvation Army Hall on February 1956 during evangelistic services. This experience created a big change in her life, Ruth decided that she may someday “do something in The Salvation Army to win souls to God”. Ruth felt called to officership shortly thereafter. Ruth Kocholek met and fell in love with David Miller. The couple married on December 6, 1958. Ruth and David Miller entered the School for Officers Training in 1963 as members of the Proclaimers of the Faith Session of Cadets. They were Commissioned and Ordained as Lieutenants on June 12, 1964. Ruth retired from The Salvation Army in 2004 where she served 40 years as an officer / ordained minister in various capacities, including working in the Missing Person’s Bureau. She obtained a Master’s Degree from Greenville College in Theology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Nyack College in Nyack, New York. After her retirement, she relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she worked as a licensed private investigator. She also worked as a consultant on cold cases upon request. In retirement Major Ruth Miller lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She enjoyed the warm weather and wonderful fellowship of close friends.
Ruth was predeceased in death by her husband David Miller.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Castaneda of Bryan, Texas, her brother, Charles Kocholek of Hermitage,Pennsylvania, her sister Mary Jean Hvisdak of Middlesex, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her daughter, Karen Foerst and her husband Larry of Hopewell Junction, New York, her sons, David Miller, Kenneth Miller and his wife Tammy, and William Miller, all of Myrtle Beach ; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
