Russell James Kowalski

September 15, 1958 ~ November 26, 2025 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Obituary

Russell Kowalski son of the late Robert and Marjorie Kowalski died peacefully surrounded by the love of his wife Darlene Kowalski of 47 years, on November 26, 2025.

He had an infectious smile, a huge heart filled with love for all and a spirit for adventure. Russell was truly dedicated to the love of his life, Darlene, who he fell in love with in 1977 at the age of 19, and later married in 1978 at the age of 20. As a husband he was adored and he adored Darlene in return, they filled their lives together with new experiences, competitive games and quality time together. The unwavering love that they shared will be a guiding light that will inspire others.

Family was his most beloved accomplishment. He cherished the relationships he had with his brother and sisters, Robert Kowalski (Patricia Kowalski), Robin Wood (the late Larry Wood) and Lynn Hoffman (Walt Hoffman). The greatest gift Russell gave his family was fatherhood. He was proud to have raised a son, Russell Dean Kowalski who encapsulates the same love his father had, who has integrity above all else and always has the willingness to put others first. His daughter Dana Zettergren shares his compassionate side, neither afraid to show their vulnerability that is actually strength. Russell's boundless capacity for love continued when he adopted Chandler Kowalski. Chandler shares a love of mechanics and motorcycles with his dad. Russell was blessed with a fourth blessing when he and Darlene were asked to care for their granddaughter Autumn Kowalski. Autumn has brought much joy to Russell affectionately known as Poppy. Russell embraced his growing family when Jesse Zettergren and Gina Kowalski joined the family as a son and daughter in law. The eight grandchildren completed his family. Maddie Zettergren, Hunter Kowalski, Ella Zettergren, Hailey Kowalski, Randi Zettergren, Ryder Kowalski, Jessie Zettergren and Autumn Kowalski. Russell has shown love, laughter and loyalty to all of his grandchildren. This completed our family.

He fought a good fight with prostate cancer for over four years and left knowing how loved he was by his wife, children, family and friends. We will look for the signs every day and will never stop loving you and remembering the life
you shared with us.

Family and friends are invited to join us for a celebration of life on Sunday November 30 at 2:00 at McMillan - Small funeral home.
