Obituary

Russell Kenyon Corbett, Jr. (“Russ”), 83, a long-time resident of Dayton, MD, died September 6, 2023, while vacationing with his family in Myrtle Beach, SC. Born on August 29, 1940, in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late Russell Corbett, Sr. and Eleanor Ravettini Corbett. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Delaware (UD) where he was a founding brother in the UD chapter of Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity.

Russ worked in personnel management for many years before becoming a real estate agent. His greatest loves were singing, gardening, woodworking, and his family and friends. While in college, he sang both in Concert Choir, where he met his wife, and in the Brandywiners, Ltd, a theatrical group that presents musicals each summer in the Open-Air Theatre at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. He continued to sing throughout his life, especially enjoying the opportunity to do solos and sing with his church choir. Russ was an avid gardener, always working to enrich the soil and saving seeds from year to year, experimenting with ways to produce sweeter tomatoes. He also took up woodworking and was pleased to have been able to complete the projects his father before him had started. Russ was a wonderful father and grandfather. He loved his family and was so proud of each of his children. He encouraged them in their studies and liked accompanying them to their sports practices and scouting events. He also enjoyed family reunions with his extended family. Russ and his wife were season ticketholders, attending UD football games together for more than 50 years. They also gathered many times over the years with his fraternity brothers and their families, with whom they had made lasting friendships, to celebrate the New Year and other occasions.

Russ is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann McIntosh Corbett; three children: R. Kenyon, III and wife Allison Bender-Corbett of Washington, D.C., Amy Corbett-Morris and husband Johnny E. Morris of Stewartstown, PA, and Adam Christopher of Towson, MD; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Carol Corbett Blank.
