Ronald Eugene Haught, 68 passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. He was surrounded by his son Jason and special friend Mike McGarrity.
Together again, Ronald and Gayle’s 50th wedding anniversary was on October 20th.
Ronald was born the oldest of three children to Mary (Stout) and Ronald G Haught, December 19, 1954 in Akron, Ohio. He married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Lynn Derks in 1973. Their only child Jason Haught was born in 1976.
Ronald relocated his family in 1977 to Danville Virginia when he transferred with Goodyear tire and rubber company. In 2006, they moved to Myrtle Beach South Carolina to live out their retirement. Ronald wore many titles, husband, dad, brother, son, grandpa, friend, baseball coach, and “acting mayor” to the Avalon community. He never met a stranger. Ronald loved his animals. He always claimed he did not want Gayle to bring home another one, but they always ended up inside the house. Although not the best decision, he would sneak whatever he was eating under the table.
He spoiled his pets, and the neighborhood, kids and dogs. He had treats just for the neighborhood dogs that would stop for a treat on their daily walks. He also had a candy drawer for the neighborhood kids.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Mary A (Stout) and dad, Ronald G Haught, the love of his life Gayle, and many beloved pets. Ronald is survived by his son, Jason (Lucy) Haught of Akron Ohio, sister, Kathryn (Steve) Jett of Wadsworth Ohio, brother, Glenn Haught of Brimfield, Ohio. Four beloved grandchildren, Ava, Amanda, Michael, and Conner. Also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday October 27th, 11 AM at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach S.C. Family will receive friends Thursday, October 26th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Grand Strand Humane Society, 3241 Mr. Joe White Ave., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
