Robert P “Pancho” Pasqualicchio died peacefully in his residence at Brightwater in Myrtle Beach on March 23, 2021. Pancho was the first Director of Airports for Horry County, hired in 1974. He was also the first manager of the Myrtle Beach Jetport (now Myrtle Beach International Airport).
Prior to his stint with the Horry County Airport Commission, Pancho was a proud member of our US Armed Forces, flying for the US Army Air Corps in World War II, and the US Air Force in Korea and Vietnam. In 1956, he was stationed in the newly re-opened Myrtle Beach Air Force Base as the first commander of the 356th Tactical Fighter Squadron, at which time, he and his beloved wife Patty fell in love with Myrtle Beach and made plans to retire here when Pancho’s Air Force career was done.
Pancho lived a full life, had the love, the stories, and the scars to prove it. He leaves behind a son and two grandsons, of whom he was always immensely proud (especially of those grandsons).
A memorial service will be held for Pancho on Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star Of The Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after which he will inurned in the church’s columbarium beside his wife Patty’s urn, for a well-earned rest.
Godspeed, Colonel.
