Robert Murdoch Bethune, Jr.

Robert (Bob) Bethune, Jr. passed peacefully, June 10, 2026 and is now home with his Savior.

Bob was born in Cheraw, South Carolina on July 29, 1932.

He was a proud graduate of Clemson University with a degree in ceramic engineering. After graduating from Clemson, Bob joined the Army where he served as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers. After leaving the Army he began his career in Roanoke, VA at Webster Brick. It was in Roanoke where he met, and married, his life long love, Patricia Brown Bethune. Together they shared an incredible 67 years of marriage. In 1975 the Bethune family moved to Myrtle Beach, where Bob worked for Waccamaw Brick for 22 years before retiring.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Pat Bethune, and their sons Robert (Sandra),Wesley Brown (Brenda), and Phillip Bethune. Bob always shared great life lessons with his boys and taught them how to be loving and caring men. He was their greatest example of how to be a nurturing, supportive husband and father.

Bob’s grandchildren, who lovingly called him BeBob, brought him true joy. Tyler Bethune (Abbey), Beau Bethune, Wil Bethune (Paula), Peachy Bethune, Hensley Bethune and Huck Bethune, will dearly miss the man they all looked up to. He also has two step grand daughters.
BeBob’s legacy will continue with his great grandchildren, Banks and Blair Bethune, and all future grands to come. Bob dearly loved his two nieces Carlotta Wiggins and Susan J. Sparks, as well as his great nephews, Zan Wiggins, Gil Wiggins, Rob Wiggins and Patrick Sparks.
Bob is also survived by his dear caretaker and friend, Joyce Hill Britt. Even on his worst days Bob always opened his eyes and smiled for Joyce. Bob loved his Clemson Tigers, being in the fields hunting with his boys, playing golf, fishing, and enjoying a cheap Scotch.
It was while hunting and fishing with his sons, AKA The Bethune Boys Club, that Bob shared his pearls of wisdom and anecdotes to help shape and mold his boys in to the fine men they are today. He was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach.
He served as President of the Lions Club in Myrtle Beach and served on the Board of Zoning and Appeals for the City of Myrtle Beach. Bob will forever be remembered as a gentleman who showed love freely and often. His deep faith was a beacon for many.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, June 15th at 3:00 at First Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach with Dr. John Brearley and Dr. Robert C. Wilkes, Jr. presiding.  Following the service please join the family for a reception at Pine Lakes Country Club for a time of fellowship and remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in honor of Bob to First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach.
