Rita M. Schloss

Rita Miscoe Schloss passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021, in Clemson, SC. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Skrabut) Miscoe of Johnstown, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Herbert B. Schloss, and brothers, Frederic (Constance) and John F. (Jean) Miscoe, Jr.

Rita is survived by 2 children, daughter Greta Shealy (James) of Clemson, SC and son Raymond Schloss of Kingston, WA; 6 grandchildren; David, Andrew (Kristen) and Katherine Shealy of Clemson, SC Lauren (Allen) Sherr of Irmo, SC, Stefan Schloss of Manassas, VA, and Noah Schloss of Kingston, WA; 3 great-grandchildren, Jensen, Lillian, and Raelynn Sherr; and many nieces and nephews.

Rita was born and raised in Johnstown, PA. She graduated from Johnstown HS in 1944 and St. Francis College in Joliet, IL in 1947. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority and Executive Secretary of the Johnstown Cultural Arts council and served on the Board of the Johnstown Community Concert Association. Herb and Rita retired to Myrtle Beach in 1980.  She served as a board member of the Coastal Concert Association, the Long Bay Symphony, and the Horry Cultural Arts Council. Her efforts with CHAMPS were vital in building the auditorium at Myrtle Beach High School. A life-long, devoted Catholic, Rita was a member of the Women’s Club at St. Andrew Church in Myrtle Beach. She most enjoyed volunteering in the St. Andrew Catholic church office and singing in the church choirs for more than 30 years.  Rita moved to Clemson, SC in 2019 to be near her family.

 A memorial mass will be held at St Andrew Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach, SC on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, PA at a later date.
