Richard Hall Knapp

Richard Hall Knapp was born to Charles and Elizabeth (Hall) Knapp on December 20, 1939, in Newton, Massachusetts.  He entered Heaven on July 20, 2025, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.    Mr. Knapp was married to Carol Chancey in 2007 and had 18 happy years of marriage.  He was blessed with the following Children: Charles, Christopher (Virginia), Richard Scott Knapp (Melissa). Stepchildren: Karen Hunter, Harry Hunter (Tonia), Paul Chancey, Debbie Chancey Tucker, and Tracy Chancey,16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. 

Mr. Knapp was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Warren, and his sons, Charles and Scott. 

After graduating from Newton High School in Newton, Massachusetts, and Boston Cooking School, Richard entered the Marines and served his country on two tours of Vietnam. He was awarded the following citations:  Good Conduct Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry, Strike Flight Air Medal, United Marine Corps Meritorious Mast, Combat Air Crew Insignia, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Vietnam Service Medal.  Richard retired as a Marine MSgt. after serving 22 years and 22 days.

Richard loved to cook and spend time with his family.  He had a close bond with his cousin, Roscoe Whitney.  They enjoyed revisiting the good old days they shared in Gray, Maine, and visiting new restaurants. 

A graveside service will be held on Mon., August 4, 2025, in Riverview Memorial Park, Wallace, NC.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Veterans Administration, Wounded Warrior, or Agape Hospice of South Carolina.

Pops will be greatly missed by all.
