Ralph Moose Obituary

Ralph Healan Moose, 93, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2021. Ralph was born to Daisy Mae and John Wesley Moose in the family home on Augusta St. in Greenville, SC.  He was their 7th and last child with 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

He was married to Kittie Godfrey Moose whom he lost in 2012 after 63 years of marriage.  He was blessed with a second marriage to Patricia Olive in 2014.  Ralph leaves a son, Ralph (Chip) Moose, Jr., and daughters Debbie Stollar (Phil) and Beth Chamblin (John).  He grew close to Patsy’s daughters, Shannon and Nicole as well as her two grandchildren. With four granddaughters and two grandsons he also has 4 great grandchildren with another one on the way next month.  He was exceptionally close to his large extended family and enjoyed a close relationship with many nieces and nephews.

He attended Greenville Sr. High School and Newberry College before serving in the Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict. He was the last purchasing agent at Southern Bleachery and Printworks in Taylors, SC and finished his career in Greensboro NC as the Section Manager in the Corporate Purchasing Department of Burlington Industries.  After retiring from Burlington Industries he represented Republic Textiles Equipment of York, SC.

His church was always a priority in his life and he served on church councils at St. Michael’s where he was a charter member.  He also served on church councils and committees at Our Savior Lutheran church in Greenville, SC and First Lutheran in Greensboro.  During his time in Myrtle Beach, he was a very active member of St. Phillip’s Lutheran Church. Church music was always a large part of his life.  He was choir director at St. Michael’s and sang in choirs in all of his churches.  He was most grateful for the opportunity to be a lay reader and assistant minister.

Ralph was an avid athlete playing many sports as a child and participating in church softball leagues well into his 40s.  His passion, however, was golf and he belonged to Myrtlewood Golf Course for 23  years. His closest friends were his golf buddies and their wives.

Ralph grew up and started his family in Greenville, South Carolina and then spent many years in Greensboro before moving to Myrtle Beach.  He loved sharing his beach home with friends and family.

Ralph and his family request no flowers and that any Memorials be made to St. Philip Lutheran Church.  The family will hold a private service to inter his ashes with Kittie and will hold a celebration of life service later in the summer when it is safe to gather and raise our voices in song.
