Pleasant Gold Winstead Jr., a US Marine to the end, passed on October 15th, 2025.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Senator and Mrs. Robert Stonewall Rogers of Dillon, S.C. and Richard and Mary Gold Winstead of Mullins, SC, his parents Mr and Mrs Pleasant Gold Winstead of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and his sister Barbara Winstead Purdy Paules of Hilton Head SC.
PG is survived by his sister Martha (Jim) Brannock of Elon, NC and his daughters, Margaret (Will) Lamb of Roswell, GA and Madeleine (Ryan) Condron of Myrtle Beach, SC.
PG had 5 grandchildren, Tyler Lamb of Roswell, GA, Sean Condron of Southport NC, Josh Condron of Wilmington NC, Brooks Condron of Myrtle Beach, SC and Webb Condron of Myrtle Beach, SC.
PG was a 1964 graduate of Myrtle Beach High School, as well as a graduate of Parris Island. He later graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a proud Gamecock. His life was marked by a highly decorated career in the United States Marine Corps, where he graduated from Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 1969.
His time in the Vietnam War culminated with his awards, most notably his earning of a Bronze Star with a Combat V Device for valor.
He was very involved in his community, from First United Methodist in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Dunes Golf and Beach Club as well as many other civic organizations, to note his time in the Beach Oversight Committee, he felt a great sense of pride being able to be involved with his favorite past time, reading on the beach.
He will be missed by all who truly knew him. There will be a private memorial service for PG for family only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans.
