It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phyllis Tanner Powell, who left us
peacefully on March 1st, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on December 29th, 1946, at Conway
Hospital, Phyllis lived much of her life in Myrtle Beach.
Phyllis was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister who dedicated her life to her family and
friends. She is survived by her three children, Allen, Andy, and Amanda, along with Allen's wife
Toni Benson-Powell and Amanda's husband Jermey Wooten of Ona, West Virginia. She also
leaves behind her grandchildren, Jordan and Ansleigh Parrish, and three great-grandchildren.
Phyllis will be dearly missed by her extended family and countless friends. She also leaves
behind two close family members, Katie and Grayden, children of her closest friend Julie, who
preceded her in death.
Family preceding Phyllis in death are her mom, Myrtle King-Tanner, her dad, Andy Tanner, and
her brother and sister, Bill and Connie Tanner.
Phyllis was a proud mom and enjoyed her years in the motel business as the operator of the
Sandy Beach Motel with her husband, Michael "Mike." She met many friends through her years
in the motel business and made even more during her years living and working in Charlotte, NC.
Phyllis was a people person and was very active socially in her earlier years. She had a passion
for cross-stitching, reading, making jewelry, and always enjoyed traveling and being with family
and friends. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. Her legacy will
live on through the many lives she touched.
Phyllis will be laid to rest with her family at Ocean Woods Cemetery on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Visitation will be at 1 PM on Friday, March 7, 2025, with a service to follow at 2 PM at
McMillian and Small Funeral Home, 67th Ave. North and Hwy 17 Bypass. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Grand Strand Humane Society in her memory.
