Obituary


Phyllis C. Gardiner passed away on January 25, 2026 at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was surrounded by family and love as she comfortably committed to a life of Everlasting Peace.

She was born March 25,1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Maurice Fowner and Sarah Moss Fowner. Phyllis grew up in Philadelphia before moving to Medford Lakes NJ. 

She graduated from Glassboro State College and became a school teacher before retiring and moving to North Carolina.
Phyllis  was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, her parents,  and her grandson, Raymond Walter (29 years old). 

She is survived by her daughters MaryAnne Kuserk (Bob) of Mount Laurel, NJ,  daughter Gail Walter  (Hal) of Clarkridge, Arkansas, and daughter Susan Iseman (John) of Myrtle Beach, SC. 

Chuck and Phyllis are also survived by seven grandchildren. Ron (Cathryn) Walter, Emily (Alex) McAnulty, Andrew and Adam Kuserk; and Jonathan and Madison Iseman; and the late Ray Walter. She had two great grandchildren Reese and Charlie ( Ron and Cathryn).

She and her husband, Lt Colonel Charles Gardiner of the US Marine Corp. retired to the Carolinas to enjoy Golf and family. First in Whispering Pines, NC and later to Myrtle Beach, SC.

They  resided at Brightwater Retirement community for approximately 13 years.

Phyllis (and Chuck), served on numerous committees at Brightwater and were an example of how to enjoy retirement, friends and family. 

Phyllis will be missed by everyone she became friends with, and her love of Family will survive many generations to come.
Donations and Memorials may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation in honor of Raymond Walter, Embrace Hospice.
