Obituary

Philip Andrew Lanz, 73, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at home, listening to the music he loved, in the arms of his wife, Jean Lanz.

They were married for 51 years, and best friends for 59 years - meeting freshmen year in High School.

Jean called him her "Renaissance Man" because he loved astronomy, photography, and woodworking (making rocking horses, chess boards, cutting boards, jewelry boxes, and astronomy chairs for family and friends). He loved to read, dabbled in cooking and loved all genre of music. Music filled the house on weekends.

Phil also enjoyed camping. He was a Scout Master - taking the boys hiking the Adirondack Trail, climbing Mt. Washington, kayaking and canoing. He practiced Tae-Kwon-Do along with his son Philip and daughter Kathryn. He loved his family and was never happier than when he was spending time with them.

Phil worked at 30 Rock for NBC, as Director of IT, for almost 40 years. He lived in Tenafly New Jersey for 47 years, then moved to Myrtle Beach South Carolina in 2020, where he and Jean built their retirement home. In Myrtle Beach, Phil spent time on the golf course and the beach, living in shorts and sandals - his dream attire. He and Jean loved traveling; taking photography trips throughout the US, Canada, Central America and Europe.

Phil is survived by his wife, Jean, his son Philip, daughter-in-law Grace, sisters Janet and Barbara, brothers-in-law Joe, Rick, his wife Ann, and many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Kathryn.

A Mass will be said Tuesday, August 11th, at 11:00, at our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach.

In lieu of flowers, Phil requested donations be made to either The Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida, for cancer research or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, for children fighting cancer.
