Montine LaVerne Neeley Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Montine LaVerne Bowman Neeley. Miss LaVerne left this world on January 8, 2024.

She was born in Augusta, Georgia on October 1, 1932, the only daughter of the late James Lester Bowman and Rachel Sheldony Hayden Bowman. She is the last of her immediate family.

LaVerne was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Andrew Parish in Myrtle Beach. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Blair Neeley, her loving parents, one brother George Lester Bowman who passed away in 2019 and a nephew Charles Steven Bowman who passed away in 2011. She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law, Johnelle Bowman of Augusta Georgia and her companion of 16 years, James “Jerry” McCartney, and his extended family

She was a long time member of the ELKS Lodge #1771 and loved all animals, including strays (Mr. Cat). LaVerne was a spunky, generous woman who lived each day to the fullest. She was a true southern lady and believed in traditional manners and etiquette. In her words, “Each day is a gift and every morning I wake up I thank the good Lord for allowing me to open my eyes and see another day on this earth”.

As requested by LaVerne, there will be no viewing and services will be private. Friends are invited to donate to the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Humane Society at 3241 Mr. Joe White Avenue, Myrtle Beach SC 29577 at https://www.grandstrandhumanesociety.com/how-you-can-help/donate or St. Andrews Catholic Church 503 37th Avenue Myrtle Beach SC 29577. She will be buried along side her husband Ed at Ocean Woods Cemetery, 2408 South Kings Highway Myrtle Beach, SC.
