Mike Thompkins Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Thompkins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He passed away in Myrtle Beach on April 29th, 2023 at the age of 66. He
leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and devotion to his faith and family. Mike was a sweet and accepting man who had a heart full of kindness. Mike's faith was an important
part of his life, and although he attended a variety of parishes of various denominations, was a devoted Lutheran who embodied the virtues of compassion and love towards others. He was a dedicated
husband to the love of his life Mary, and a proud father to his two children, Mitchell and MariAmber. Mike, the son of Thurman McCoy Thompkins and Margret Jane Haselden, was born and raised in
Myrtle Beach where he spent most of his life. He often found peace and solace at the Clear Pond, a place of great significance to him as it was where much of his family was born and raised. It was a
place of tranquility and he loved to spend time there reflecting and meditating .Mike worked for Walmart for 35 years, where he was known for his hard work and dedication. He took
great pride in his work and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his colleagues and customers.  As many who knew him will attest, Mike was an avid listener of Bluegrass music which he felt
connected him to his roots. In his free time, Mike enjoyed reading and writing. He was an avid reader and loved to dive into a good book, typically non-fiction or history. He also enjoyed writing about his
thoughts and life experiences which he often shared with his family and friends. You could frequently find him at Chapin Memorial Library, a place which provided a great deal of comfort and offered a
space to allow his thoughts to flow. He had a quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to those around him. Mike's passing is a great loss to his family, friends, and community.
However, his memory will live on through the love and kindness he shared with others throughout his life. He will be deeply missed but will not be forgotten.

Mike is survived by his wife Mary, his two children Mitchell and MariAmber, his grandson Ezra Lee, double first cousins Marjorie Gardner, Nell Ciaccio, and Sammy Thompkins, cousins Robert Shelly and Lucy Hughes, and many other family members  and friends who loved him dearly.

A celebration of his life will be held at First United Methodist Church on May 6, 2023 at 2pm, where friends and family will gather to remember and honor his life.
