Obituary

Melvin Lynwood Lewis was born May 18, 1930 in Aynor, South Carolina; his parents, Robert Edward Lee Lewis and Lois Timmons Lewis. Lynwood as he was affectionately known moved to Myrtle Beach when he was nine years old. He graduated from Myrtle Beach high school in 1948, attended two years to Clemson University, then enlisted in the naval Air Force in 1950 during the Korean War. He was stationed in Memphis Tennessee, where he met the love of his life Lala Belle McGuire; they married in 1952 and we first stationed in Bath Maine Lynwood and learned how to cut hair when he was 14 years old. Once the Navy learned of his skills, he was shipped to Iceland, and then to Morocco, he would cut hair for servicemen on the way to Korea. Lynwood was Honorably Discharged in 1955 from the Naval Air Force and set up Barbering at the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base for many years in the 1950’s, 60's & 70’s’. Lynwood also co-operated The Terminal Barber in Myrtle Beach but finished His Barbering Career in Ocean Drive with His Younger Brother (Bobby) until he was 87 years old.

Lynnwood loved being outdoors. He often enjoyed fishing & playing golf having scored 11 holes in ones during his 65 year plus golfing career.

His first child was born in 1960 and named Melvin Lynwood (Mel) Lewis Jr. and a second son was born in 1963 named James Lee (Jim) Lewis.

Lynwood was predeceased by his older Sister Euralee DuBose and is survived by a younger Sister Claudette Hatchel and his younger Brother Bobby Lewis; his son Mel and his wife Dana; his second son Jim and his wife Lora and has 15 nieces and nephews; he so enjoyed his life with many friends and sharing love and happiness. 


A Funeral service will be held at a later date after the passing of his beloved Wife in God’s time. Memorials can made to First Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, where he was a member for 85 years.
