Mary Emily Benton 83 went home to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Anderson Oaks Assisting Living following an illness.
She was born April 8, 1937, in Conway the daughter of the late Joseph Alexander Dunn and Eva Guyton Dunn. She was pre-deceased by her husbands, Lee Lewis Johnson and William “Lloyd” Benton and five siblings.
Mary was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church in Conway where she enjoyed working with Ms. Minnie teaching children in Sunday School. She was a manager at AVX Corporation in the Quality Control Department where she retired after 40 years. Mary’s career took her to exciting places such as Asia, El Salvador, China and Mexico. Upon her second marriage, Mary moved to Myrtle Beach where she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach. She served on many church committees and enjoyed overseeing the 135th anniversary celebration of the church. She enjoyed taking meals or a cake to those who were sick. Mary enjoyed traveling, shopping and her home beautifully displayed her love for decorating. She was a gracious southern lady, always dressed to the nines and had her hair “done” at the salon each week.
Surviving is her son, Joseph Lee Johnson and wife Amy, granddaughter, Brittani Hunsucker (Taylor), grandson, Joseph Lee Johnson Jr, great-grandchildren, Josie and Riley Hunsucker and stepsons, David Benton and Billy Benton.
A graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway with Pastor Bruce Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Masks will be required along with social distancing.
