Martha Peterson Obituary

Martha Jane Peterson, 89, passed away, Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Portside of Myrtle Beach.

She was born March 13, 1932, in Kingsport, TN a daughter of the late G.A. and Elizabeth Light Brooks. She was predeceased by her husband Pete Peterson in 2012.

Martha, a veteran’s wife, was widowed after 61 years of marriage to the love of her life, Pete.  Together, after retirement from the Air Force, Pete and Martha were business owners of three gift shops on Ocean Boulevard for over twenty years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was very active in the Woman’s Circle.  She loved working in the church thrift shop and being involved in programs for college students.  Martha was a member of several Disciple Classes, Bible studies, Sunday School and church fund raisers. She enjoyed golf and was most of all a devoted wife and mother who will be missed by all those who knew her.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Schmitt (Bob) and Donna Bailey both of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Ruth Hawthorne of Surgoinsville, TN; three grandchildren, Michael Schmitt (Valerie) of Charleston, SC, Lauren Bailey Blaine (Benton) of Charlotte, NC, and Brian Schmitt (Lauren) of Myrtle Beach, SC and three great grandchildren, Madelyn Schmitt, Lazlo Schmitt, and Pierson Blaine.

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, October 1, 2021, at First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach with Dr. George Howle, Rev. Meredith Dark and Rev. Thomas N. Brittain officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
