Margaret Cauthen Lawing

Margaret Whittaker Cauthen Lawing, age 81, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026.
Margaret was born to the late Garland Eugene and Ellora Trivett Whittaker in Tazewell, Virginia on October 6th , 1944. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Garland Eugene Whittaker, Jr. (Darlene) and her first husband, Mel Cauthen.
Margaret is survived by her devoted husband, Alexander G. Lawing Jr.; her daughter, Mrs. Lisa Cauthen Carmichael (J.D.); and her beloved granddaughters, Ms. Garland Carmichael and Ms. Casey Carmichael, all of Jackson, Mississippi. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Mrs. Christine Adams (Brantley), and granddaughter, Miss Molly Adams, of Columbia, South Carolina. Additional survivors include her sisters, Mrs. Sue Whittaker Bethke (Chester) and Dr. Catherine Whittaker, Nephews and Nieces: Mr. Robert Whittaker Bethke (Page), Mrs. Susan Moffett Bethke (Don), Mrs. Sarah Margaret Bethke, and Mr. Todd Whittaker and many cousins, including close cousin Don Whittaker (Ann).

Margaret earned an Associate Degree in Business from King's College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She went on to build a successful career in the clothing manufacturing industry in Mississippi, where her hard work, and determination earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Margaret enjoyed the simple joys of life and cherished the relationships she built throughout the years. She loved playing cards with her local friends, vacationing with her husband and close companions, including her best friend Ann, shopping for thoughtful gifts, and spending time with her granddaughters. She never missed an opportunity to stay connected with family and friends and was known for her many telephone conversations that kept loved ones near, no matter the distance.
Those who knew Margaret will remember her for her generosity, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. She found great happiness in celebrating the accomplishments and milestones of those she loved, and her presence brought warmth and comfort to everyone around her.

A memorial service honoring Margaret's life will be held on September 12, 2026, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, 910 67th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 at 10:00 am.
