Margaret “Peggy” Illa Barker (née Massey), age 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by
the love of her family. She was born on January 1, 1946, in Richmond, Ohio, to the late
Geraldine and Charles Massey.
Peggy was the devoted wife of Danny O. Barker, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years
of marriage after being wed on August 14, 1965. Their love story was one of unwavering
devotion, partnership, and faith, and it remained the foundation of her life.
Peggy was a loving and selfless mother to Kimberly Nathan and her husband Mark Nathan,
and Danny O. Barker II and his wife Judith Barker. She was a proud and adoring
grandmother to Tyler Nathan (fiancée Caroline Hall), Blake Nathan (fiancée Caroline Fogle),
and Danny O. Barker III (fiancée Mallory Carter). Her grandchildren were the joy of her life,
and she cherished every opportunity to support them, attending countless games,
performances, and milestones.
Peggy is survived by her sister, Alice Marquis, as well as many beloved brothers- and
sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by
her parents and her brothers, Bill Chappel and Chuck Chappel.
Family was always Peggy’s greatest priority. She loved her husband unconditionally and
dedicated her life to raising and supporting her children in everything they pursued. She
rarely missed a moment, attending every band competition, baseball, softball, and football
game, and every school function she possibly could.
She loved the ocean and, later in life, moved from Ohio with her husband to be closer to her
children and the beach she adored. A wonderful cook, Peggy was known for her legendary
spaghetti and meatballs and for always making more food than necessary because she
never wanted anyone to run out of food.
A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, she especially enjoyed spending Sundays watching games
alongside her husband. Deeply spiritual, Peggy lived with quiet faith and constant care for
others, always reminding her children, “Be careful,” every time they left the house, a phrase
that will forever echo in their hearts.
Peggy treasured the holidays, when her home was filled with the warmth of family, the
aromas of her favorite recipes, and the sound of laughter and shared memories.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. Peggy’s greatest desire was
to spend eternity with her husband, and her family finds peace in honoring that wish.
She will be remembered for her unconditional love, her steady presence, her generous
heart, and the way she made everyone around her feel cared for. Her legacy lives on through
the family she cherished above all else.
