Obituary

Marcus J. Wintersteen, age 55, of Myrtle Beach, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. Born on July 3, 1970, Marc lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends.

On April 23, 2017, he married the love of his life, Deena Smith, in Myrtle Beach. Together they shared nine beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Marc dedicated more than 15 years to the Cooper Mechanical family. Beginning in the service department, he worked his way up to Assistant Service Manager through determination, skill, and dedication. He became the person everyone turned to when it came to specialty equipment and refrigeration systems. No matter the hour, Marc never hesitated to answer a phone call or lend a helping hand. His co-workers knew they could always rely on him, and those late-night conversations and moments of teamwork became some of the friendships he treasured most. Marc was more than a co-worker — he was family to many, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Outside of work, Marc found joy on the water, especially when boating with Deena. He was also a devoted fan of the Clemson Tigers football, proudly cheering on the Tigers every season and enjoying the friendly rivalries and Monday morning football debates with friends and co-workers alike. Go Tigers!

Marc will always be remembered for his kind heart, loving spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was the type of man who would give someone the shirt off his back without hesitation. To his children, he was the dependable fixer who could solve any problem. To his grandchildren, he was a proud and loving grandfather who adored each of them and looked forward to watching them grow and succeed. At work, he earned the affectionate nickname “Grumpy Gus” — a title that perfectly captured his lovable grumbling personality and the dependable support that always followed.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Al Wintersteen and Rona Wood.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Deena Wintersteen; his children, Nikki (Shorty), Heather (Toby), Amanda (Jay), Kelsey (Que), and Storey (Karen); his 15 cherished grandchildren; his sister, April (Larry); and his niece and nephew, Johnathan (Logan) and Alexis (Alli), along with many extended family members, friends, and co-workers who loved him dearly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Ignite Church. All who knew and loved Marc are welcome to attend and celebrate the remarkable life he lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
