Lindsay Rudolph Nelson, 98, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at his home.

He was born September 16, 1926, in Elgin, SC, a son of the late Logan Benjamin and Bernice Jeffers Nelson.  He was predeceased by two children, Pamela Nelson and Carl Nelson and seven siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Mary Mangum Nelson, two sons, James and Rudy Nelson, six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Lindsay proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he served in the second world war and worked as a mine sweeper during that time. On June 1st, 1963, Lindsay and his wife, Mary opened Nelson’s Men’s Shop and also owned Fashion Makers in the outlet mall at Waccamaw Pottery. In September of 1965, Lindsay moved into the family home off 62nd Avenue which he helped build and remains today.

Lindsay was a devoted Christian and began serving in the Church as a Deacon at the early age of 19. He and His brother Leman formed a Church on Fairfield Road which still exists today. He has helped and worked in many Churches and helped support numerous missionaries in the Pentecostal Church and Conference.

Lindsay was always busy with not only Churches but proudly serving the community as well. He served as the President of the Horry County Heart Association and served on the state board for 3 years. He also served as the President of the Merchants Association for 5 years along with serving as the President for the 1st and 3rd year of the opening of the Myrtle Square Mall. He served 17 years on the cities Adjustment Board from June 1980 to June 1981 and also served as the President of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Lindsay’s son, James Nelson, started a charity golf tournament in memory of Mary Nelson’s father, which was known as the James W. Mangum Golf Tournament. It was later called the James W. Mangum and Lindsay R. Nelson Golf Tournament, which lasted 25 years. All proceeds from the tournament go to local community organizations and church groups which still help others today. Joy Springs has helped for many years, and the proceeds have allowed missionaries and pastor’s families to take family vacations that they would normally not be able to have.
