Linda Roddy Henderson

Linda Roddy Henderson, age eighty‑one, of Conway, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2026, surrounded by her husband and children. She had faced multiple myeloma with strength and grace for more than a decade.

Born in Narberth, Pennsylvania, on September 28, 1944, Linda was the daughter of Joseph Stockton Roddy, Nettie Bittle Roddy and beloved step-mother, Cicely Hicks Roddy. Linda grew up in Asbury Park, N.J. with her sisters Joan B. Roddy and Nancy R. Rodman. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Spanish from Wilson College, was a CPA and later earned an MBA and DBA from Louisiana Tech University.

She is survived by her beloved husband, James D. Henderson whom she met during Peace Corps training in 1966.  They subsequently worked together in Colombia, South America, in a program of adult literacy. Finding pleasure in one another’s company, they married in Colombia in December of 1967.  The two lived happily together ensuing fifty-nine years, of a loving and devoted marriage.

Linda is survived by her children: James K. Henderson (Marta), Elizabeth H. Davis (WL), Jessica H. McBride (Michael), Thomas A. Henderson (Tootsie), and Joseph R. Henderson (Cari). She also leaves behind thirteen wonderful grandchildren and four great‑grandchildren.  

Linda devoted twenty‑eight years to teaching at Coastal Carolina University (CCU), where she was honored with the title of Professor Emerita upon her retirement in 2015. Linda administered the departments of Accounting, Economics, and finance at CCU for fourteen years and was widely respected for Linda’s leadership and scholarship.  During those years she was instrumental in helping the school secure its Master of Business Administration.

Linda and Jim were Fulbright Scholars, a distinction that reflected their shared commitment to education and global engagement. In 1992, Linda received a Fulbright award to teach at the Javeriana University and Externado University in Colombia, deepening Linda’s lifelong connection to Latin America.

The talents of Linda Roddy Henderson went far beyond those of teaching and university administration.  She was a gifted proofreader of academic manuscripts, and was a specialist in Latin American history as well.  In 2023 she published, with her husband and another colleague, Ten Notable Women of Colonial Latin America.  In 2024 she published with her colleagues Ten Notable Women of Modern Latin America. These were works that highlighted Linda’s passion for elevating women’s stories across the region. Linda will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McMillan‑Small Funeral Home and Crematorium in Myrtle Beach.

Her celebration of life will take place Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon.
