Leo Thomas Kaercher, 88, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Leo lived a full and devoted life that touched all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Leo was born on January 29th, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA to Lee and Mildred Kaercher.
Leo was a proud Penn Stater — it was at Penn State where he met the love of his life, Nancy, and where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to earn an MBA from Duquesne University and achieved the distinction of Professional Engineer, a credential that reflected both his expertise and his commitment to excellence throughout a distinguished career.
A man of deep faith, Leo drew strength and purpose from his relationship with God, which guided him throughout his life. In quieter moments, he could be found on the golf course or tending to his garden — pursuits that brought him genuine joy and peaceful contentment.
Leo is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Nancy Kaercher, his son Lee and his brother Joe. Their bond was a testament to a life well-shared, and Leo carried Nancy’s memory with him every day until the end.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Mark Kaercher and his wife Sylvia; Doug Kaercher and his wife Erin; Steve Kaercher and his wife Sandy; and Chris Kaercher and his sister, Anne. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, who were among his greatest joys and proudest accomplishments. Leo took immense pride in his family, and his love for each of them was a guiding light throughout his life.
Leo will be remembered for his warmth, his quiet strength, and the steady presence he brought to every room. He faced life’s joys and hardships alike with grace and steadfast character — qualities that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren carry forward.
“May he rest in the peace he so gently gave to others.”
