Larry James Kitchen

Larry Kitchen, 79, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and formally of Glen Allen and Franklin, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

He was the son of Ulysses and Adeline Kitchen of Courtland, Virginia.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Elaine Vinson Kitchen; daughter, April Fowler, her husband, Danny Fowler, along with grandsons, Cameron, and Blake Fowler, all of Sedley, Virginia. Also surviving is his brother, Vance Kitchen of Midlothian, Virginia.

Larry’s career span almost 50 years in heavy equipment sales, with the last 28 years with Carter Machinery in Richmond, Virginia, where he finished his career as Virginia Forest Equipment Sales Manager. During this management, he consulted on Caterpillar East Coast committees, and under his lead, his division won worldwide recognition and awards. Larry loved all things Caterpillar, as evidenced by his Buy Cat license plate. He also won the Hatton-Brown Publications Salesman of the Year award.

Larry was a people person and was always talking to someone, friends, and strangers. He was always happy and kind. Larry was affectionately referred to as “the Mayor”, where he was teased to be “working the room” or trying to “drum up business”.

In church activities, Larry was a prior Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McMillan-Small Funeral Home at 910 67th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on January 28, 2025 at 11:00 am.
