Layla Belle (McGuire) Lewis was born in 1929 on May 3 in Memphis, Tennessee; she lived to 95 years. Her parents were Mary H. and James H McGuire.
Lala attended Bartlett Public schools and graduated in 1952 with an art degree from Murray State University. She married Melvin Lynwood Lewis, on November 17, 1952, where they lived in Bath Maine while he served in the naval Air Force during the Korean War and They built a home in Myrtle Beach in 1956 in Pine Lakes.; They lived a joyous life as members of First Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach. Lala saw beauty in all things, especially in people, loved to sew and shard her love often created art with many things she touched. As a couple, Lynwood & Layla played golf almost every Sunday together until they were 86 years old. Lala‘s best friend was her sister Pat Hodge, who died in 2007 and survived by two brothers David, H. McGuire, James H. McGuire, two nieces Lorna Krakoff and Lyndora Howard.
Lala is survived by her two boys Mel Lewis, his wife Dana and Jim Lewis his wife Lora; who all cared for Lala at their home until she passed five weeks after Lynwood died. They were married three weeks shy of 72 years. Lala and Lynwood were friends to many and strangers to none; who will be greatly missed; but now are in heaven together forever.
We will have graveside interment of Ashes for Lala & Lynwood.
The service will be held on January 24th, 2025 at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens in North Myrtle Beach at 3:30 PM. Memorials can be made to First Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
