Keith Daniel Merrill, a deeply loved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to so many, went home to be with his heavenly father on June 1, 2025, at the age of 82.
Keith’s life was centered around his love of faith, family, and connections. He grew up in Bayside, NY, the eldest son of Bryce and Roberta Merrill, and was born in Binghamton on November 3, 1942. He met the love of his life, Carol, during his first year at Barrington College, where he played soccer and basketball. They married in the summer of 1965 and spent the next 60 years side by side, building a beautiful life full of love and laughter.
He started his career teaching in Dartmouth, MA, before moving into a role with Travelers Insurance, where he worked in the worker’s comp division. For over 25 years, he was regional manager in their Worker’s comp division for Southeast MA and Rhode Island supporting others in their time of need. Eventually, his heart called him back to the classroom, where he spent his final working years teaching Social Studies and Math at Bridgewater Academy Public Charter School. He retired in 2009.
After retirement, Keith embraced every moment with Carol-traveling the world, exploring the U.S., and most importantly, spending time with his family. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan, rarely missing a game, a concert or a school event. Whether it was cheering from the stands or volunteering as a line judge or referee, Keith showed up-always. He had a passion for all sports, but none more than his beloved New England Patriots. Still, his greatest joy came from the time spent with family. Holidays, cookouts, quiet afternoons, and noisy, laughter-filled dinners where Keith truly came alive.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife Carol; his siblings Claire Adare, Corinne, Craig, and his wife Denise Merrill; his son Scott and wife Ericka; his daughter Karen Faris and husband Graham; his eight grandchildren: Hannah Merrill, Haleigh Elvis and husband Trenton, Ryan Merrill, Megan Faris and fiance Zeke Stephens, Alec Faris, Hunter, Zachary, and Cody Selmon; one great-grandchild Sophia Elvis, and lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
To know Keith was to be loved by him. His presence was steady, his support unwavering, and his legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
