Julian Rogers Parks, age 95, passed away comfortably at Portside at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach, SC on April 10, 2025, surrounded by family members and caregivers. Julian was born in Halifax, North Carolina on December 10, 1929, son of the late Vivian Archer Parks, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Leggett Parks. He graduated from Weldon High School, and attended Mars Hill College, where he met his future wife, Indie Burwell Bowers from Littleton, NC. He completed the Commercial Bank Management Program at Columbia University, NY in 1972, and was a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University in 1976.
Julian served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1948 until 1955, stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. Living in Durham, NC, he was a member of Watts Street Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. His career as a banker started with Fidelity Bank (Wachovia Bank) in Durham, and then he relocated his family to Whiteville, NC with Waccamaw Bank and Trust Company in 1966. Julian retired from then United Carolina Bank (formally Waccamaw Bank) after 40 years. He was very active as a member of First Baptist Church, Whiteville, serving as a Deacon, and other leadership roles. He was an active member of the Whiteville Civitan Club as a past President, and many other roles. He served on multiple committees of the N.C. District-East of Civitan International. Julian served as President of the Greater Whiteville Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Whiteville City School board. He later was an active member of Littleton Baptist Church, Littleton, NC following retirement and relocation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Vivian Parks and sister-in-law, Kathryn, brother Bennie Parks and sister-in-law Helen, and brother Charles Parks.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Indie Bowers Parks of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister, Lois Sanders and brother-in-law, Phil of Lynchburg, VA; Children, Linda Parks Batten (George) of Bluffton, SC; Gail Parks Perez (Tim) of Spicewood, TX; Elizabeth Parks Fowler (Rocky) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; Julian Rogers Parks, Jr. (Becky) of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Indie Parks Rush (Farrell) of Taylors, SC. He was the proud "PaPa" of his eight grandchildren, Alecia Batten Woodward (Brent), George Parks Batten (Jessica), Sarah Parks Duncan, Harrison Smith Fowler (Lindsey), Alan Garrett Stanley (Sara), Indie Stanley O'Connell (Robert), Julian Rogers Parks, III (Palmer), Anna Elizabeth Stanley; and 15 great grandchildren. There are also numerous special nieces, nephews and other family members who played an important part in Julian's life.
Julian was a Lifetime member of the Halifax Fishing Club, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working to restore their old family homeplace in Littleton. He was a very detail-oriented person, who liked to work on small projects. He also enjoyed attending auctions to find the
"deal". Julian was a devoted husband, loving father and friend to many.

A memorial service will be held on April 26, 2025 at 1-3pm in the Sage Room at Portside at Grande Dunes, Assisted Living, 901 Portside Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572, with the family receiving friends following the celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Littleton Baptist Church, 108 Mosby Avenue, Littleton, NC 27850.
