Juanita West Obituary

Juanita Guest West, 99, wife of Harold Eugene West(deceased), formerly of Franklin Village in Spartanburg and most recently Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, joined her heavenly family on Sunday, January 15.

Juanita was a loving Mom, Nanny, Sister, and a loving and caring Aunt to dozens of nieces and nephews. She was also a skilled wedding planner and entrepreneur who loved cooking and planning dinner parties for family and friends. She also had many hobbies and pastimes that included interior design, holiday decorating, gardening, sewing, reading and was also a talented “foodie” and cuisine connoisseur.

Born on July 10, 1923, in Gaffney, South Carolina, Juanita was the daughter of the late Joel Estes and Martha Palmer Guest. She graduated from Cowpens High School in 1941 and retired from Smith Drug Store # 1 in Spartanburg, South Carolina after twenty-five years of service.

After her retirement, Juanita built her own catering business and combined her loves for cooking, planning and design to become one of the best wedding planner entrepreneurs in Spartanburg and the surrounding communities. Her business served thousands of families and their guests throughout the south for over 25 years, hosting some of the most fabulous catering events, family weddings, anniversary dinner and birthday parties.

Juanita and her family were members of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Spartanburg. After moving to Myrtle Beach, Juanita became a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Joe, Carl Edward, sisters Kathleen, Martha and Mary Tatum of Aiken, and stepmother Irene.

She is survived by two sons; Randy Eugene, and daughter-in-law Rebecca West of Myrtle Beach and David Lewis and daughter-in-law Ina West of Spartanburg and a granddaughter Katie Sharpe, husband Jason of Wingate, North Carolina; three grandsons, Matthew West of Spartanburg, and Tyler West, wife Carmony and Great Grandson River West of Columbia, South Carolina; Jimmy Stenhouse, wife Tina of Maitland, Florida, a sister Ann Guest Mullinax of Sanford, North Carolina, brothers Jerry Guest of Spartanburg, SC and William Guest of Stockbridge, Georgia. Adopted family Tony West, Sarah West, and Travis West of Little River, South Carolina. She had three lovely friendships for 70 years with Mildred Little and Mary and Betty Carr of Spartanburg, SC.

There will be a memorial service in Myrtle Beach conducted by the Rev. Joshua Keinath on Thursday, January 19th at 11am at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 10595 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC. Burial will be on January 20th at 12pm at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in East Spartanburg, SC.
