John (Jack) Frederick Adcock, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 31, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Melissa (Keating) Adcock. Surviving also are two children and their families - Amy Pradetto Werdean and husband, Andrew Werdean - grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, and Matthew; and John F Adcock III and wife, Shannon Joines Adcock - Tyler and Claire. Jack’s sister, Barbara Jane Adcock, has predeceased and a brother, David Brooks Adcock, survives.

Jack spent his professional career working in financial analytical positions at United States Steel Corporation, Chrysler Corporation, Beaunit Fibers Corporation, and Duke University. During Jack’s tenure Duke’s academic, research, and patient care reputation rose from a regional to national status with annual operating expenditures of $3+ billion; endowment and other investments of $5+ billion; significant expansion of physical plant assets; consistent balanced budgets; high bond ratings, and an impeccable federal audit record. In addition to his financial responsibilities, Jack also served on the President’s Advisory Committee on Resources, the Fringe Benefit Committee, and was a member of the Athletic Council for many years.

After retirement in 2000, Jack remained active in various activities that utilized his financial, analytical, and management expertise including becoming a South Carolina licensed residential appraiser; an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA); and participation in the development of the governance and financial organization of the Belfair Country Club as a Board Member, Treasurer, and member of the Finance and Long-Range Planning Committees.
