Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Edward Ring, III (84), who passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Carol DuBois Ring, loving father and best friend of Barbara Ring-Zeko, beloved grandfather of Jacob Edward Zeko, and favorite uncle to William DuBois.

Born on June 24, 1940, in Edgewater, NJ, John was the son of the late John and Charlotte Ring. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Lorentz and beloved in-laws William and Emily DuBois.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Carol DuBois Ring of Myrtle Beach; his daughter Barbara Ring-Zeko (Robert); his grandson Jacob Edward Zeko of Newburgh, NY; and his favorite nephew William DuBois (Nina) of Long Beach Island, NJ, along with many friends and family in South Carolina, New York, and New Jersey.

He graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ, and joined the U.S. Marines on his 17th birthday. He worked for Amerada Hess as a Terminal Manager in Edgewater, NJ, and Newburgh, NY, followed by years in construction management in Mt. Vernon, NY, and Myrtle Beach, SC.

He was a proud U.S. Marine veteran who took his wife and daughter to Camp Lejeune and Parris Island and yearly trips to Florida. A recovering alcoholic, he was sober for the last 42 years. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Church in Myrtle Beach, SC, and served on the HOA board of his Myrtle Beach properties for the past 30 years. He was a kind, honest, and hardworking man who will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Special thanks to the medical staff at  North Grand Strand Hospital; his kind neighbors Bonnie and Joe Henry, Patrick and Annie Williams, and Glenn Steph; and the most wonderful aide, Angela Panos, who took great care of him in his last days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, Myrtle Beach, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice of Myrtle Beach, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation of Triangle, VA, or Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary of Kerhonkson, NY.

Rest easy, Marine—your watch is over.
