John Joseph Pinkas, 94, passed away, Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born May 29, 1929, in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Matthew J. and Frances Havlik Pinkas. He was also predeceased by his wife, Mary E. Pinkas in 2018 and 7 siblings.
John was a kind, gentle and generous man who led a full life. He was a parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach and a distinguished Korean War Veteran with three Purple Hearts.
Early in his career as a sheet metal mechanic, John assisted with the design and fabrication of laboratory equipment for Dr. George Otto Gey, a leading cancer cell researcher at The John’s Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.
An avid gardener, woodworker, and Nash automobile enthusiast, he always looked for ways to improve, innovate and conserve.
Survivors include his sons, John J. Pinkas, Jr. (Sharon) of East Earl, PA and Jerry Pinkas (Shelia) of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, Joan Pinkas of Forest Hill, MD; two sisters, Agnes McCann of Hackensack, NJ and Frances Hergenhahn of Baltimore, MD; five grandchildren, Sophia Balat, Abigail Sterbenz and Isabella Pinkas, John J. Pinkas, III and Joshua Pinkas; six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at McMillan-Small Funeral Home on Friday. November 10, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 PM, with a Catholic prayer service at 5:00 PM.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 11, 2023, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home and burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway with full military honors.
