John H. Nance Sr, 91, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026 in Myrtle Beach. Born on March 21, 1935 in Myrtle Beach, John Sr. was the youngest of 9 children of the late Daniel Wayne Nance and Mary Ellen Todd Nance, a well loved and respected Myrtle Beach family.
After graduating from Myrtle Beach High School, John Sr. joined the United States Army where he served as a sergeant for four years. After returning to Myrtle Beach, he married Margaret A. Nance and were married for 67 years. John Sr. began his career in residential building and then built the Lancer Motel which he owned and operated for many years. An avid outdoorsman, John Sr. spent time doing what he loved most: hunting and fishing especially with family and friends.
John Sr. is survived by his loving wife, Margaret A. Nance, sons David Nance (CeCe), Steven Nance, daughter-in-law Shannon Nance, grandchildren Trey, Parker, David Jr., Ryland, Daniel, Tucker, Landon and Dawson, great grandchild August; special nephew, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Nance Jr.; as well as his brothers Donnie Nance Sr., Thomas Nance; his sisters, Evelyn Benton, Gertrude Hayes, Esther Gray, Virginia Cooper, Marjorie Nance Benton and Sarah Nance Watts, and special nephew, Donnie Nance, Jr.
A Celebration of Life to honor his life will be held at Ocean View Baptist Church 7300 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Kirk Lawton presiding.
