Jeffrey R Aversa

Jeff Aversa of Little River, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. He was 73 years old.
Born on November 8, 1952, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Jeff was the son of Vincent "Vince" Aversa and Helen DeStefano. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Vincent Aversa. He is survived by his loving brother, Gene Aversa, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, family traditions, and a special bond rooted in their Pittsburgh upbringing.
Jeff graduated from Valley High School in New Kensington in 1970 and earned his degree from Slippery Rock University in 1974. On June 22, 1974, he married the love of his life, Karen, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned more than 52 years and was built on faith, love, family, and friendship.
Jeff began his professional career as an educator, teaching Physical Education and Social Studies at Kanty Prep in Erie, Pennsylvania, and later at Mercyhurst Prep. During his time in education, he also served as Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Basketball Coach, sharing his passion for athletics and mentorship with countless young people.
He later transitioned into the business world, building a successful career with Lufkin Gear and Cleveland Gear. His work took him from Texas to New Jersey, New York, Cincinnati, Ohio, and eventually Geneva, Illinois, while traveling extensively throughout the East Coast. He concluded his professional career with GE Oil & Gas before retiring.
While Jeff's professional accomplishments were many, his greatest legacy was the impact he had on young people and his community through sports. A lifelong baseball enthusiast, he dedicated countless hours to coaching, mentoring, and creating opportunities for youth athletes. He coached his sons in baseball and basketball from Little League through Legion Baseball and became a respected leader within the youth sports community.
Through the Liberty Sports Organization (LSO) in Ohio, Jeff helped construct four new baseball fields, established coach and umpire clinics to improve the quality and consistency of play, created boys' and girls' flag football leagues, and founded a branch of the Challenger Program to provide athletic opportunities for children with special needs. In recognition of his tireless volunteerism and service, he was inducted into the Little League Hall of Fame as Volunteer of the Year. The programs he helped build and the lives he touched continue to benefit generations of young athletes and families.
A devoted Catholic and proud Italian American, Jeff embraced his heritage wholeheartedly. He loved preparing homemade Italian meals, gathering family around the table, and sharing stories, laughter, and traditions. He was your classic paisan—warm, welcoming, and happiest when surrounded by family and friends.
Jeff never met a stranger. Whether on the golf course, at a baseball field, in church, or around town, he had an extraordinary ability to connect with people and make them feel like lifelong friends. He was an active member of the Bridgewater community and valued the many friendships he built throughout his life from all the places he lived.
A passionate Pittsburgh sports fan, Jeff proudly supported the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins through every season. He also enjoyed golfing and playing bocce. He was instrumental in establishing the bocce courts and league in Bridgewater and introduced the organization to glow-in-the-dark bocce, which quickly became a
favorite among players. One of his proudest golfing accomplishments came when he and his brother Gene set the member-guest tournament record at Moon Brook Country Club in Jamestown, New York, shooting an impressive 59.
Above all else, Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Karen Aversa; his brother, Gene Aversa (Ann) of Leland, North Carolina; his son’s, Brian (Samantha) Aversa of Elburn, Illinois, Chris Aversa of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Jeremy Aversa of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and his cherished grandsons, Brady (17) and Blake Aversa (15). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Mike (Carol) Aversa, Michelle (Phil) Frable, and Brett (BJ) (Amy) Aversa.
Nothing brought Jeff greater joy than spending time with his family. He especially treasured watching Brady and Blake compete in sports and took immense pride in being their biggest fan. Whether on the sidelines, in the stands, or talking sports afterward, those moments were among his most treasured memories.
Jeff also loved the beach, the sunshine, and the sound of the ocean. Time spent along the coast with Karen, his children, and his grandchildren brought him immense happiness and ultimately drew him back to South Carolina, where he enjoyed retirement surrounded by family, friends, and the beauty of the sea.
Jeff's life was defined by faith, family, friendship, and service. His generosity, compassion, humor, and unwavering dedication to others left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though his family mourns his loss, they find comfort in the countless memories he created, the values he instilled, and the legacy of love and service he leaves behind.
